Mogadishu(Faanoole)-Al-Shabaab militants on Saturday seized El-Wak town near the Kenyan border and withdrew from the town after destroying the police station and looting food in stores, Faanoole reported.
Governor of El-Wak town, Ibrahim Aden Guled said that the militants destroyed the police station.
” Al-Shabaab militants entered into the town this morning, the militants destroyed the police station with explosions, they also looted food and equipment belonged to humanitarian agencies here”, Mr. Guled said.
Al-Shabaab militants said that they distrusted large amount of food in stores to civilians in the town and recovered a vehicle owned by the administration of El-Wak town.
Residents in the town said that Al-Shabaab militants captured the town without any resistance from the government soldiers and the group spoke to crowd of the people in the center during their stay in the town.
Independent sources say that an airstrike happened near the town after the militants quit, but no casualties reported so far.
This is the second major attack that Al-Shabaab takes against a town near border of Kenya-Somalia and in Gedo region in southern Somalia
