Mogadishu(Faanoole)-China has on Wednesday held a farewell ceremony for 50 Somali Students who received scholarships from China through the Federal Government of Somalia here in Mogadishu, Faanoole reported.
Minister of Education of Somalia, Abdi Dahir Osman thanked The People’s Republic of China for providing such opportunity of Scholarship to Somalia, urging the students to make use of the chance.
” I am thanking our brothers, the Government of China for giving our students to this important opportunity of scholarships with higher studies, we request from Chinese Government to increase scholarships it gives us (Somalia), We hope they will continue their support to Somali government and People”, Mr. Osman said.
” The students got lucky to study very important faculties including Medicines, Engineering and Agriculture. I think they will return home being educated with enough knowledge that they could contribute to their country”, Osman added.
General Director of the Ministry of Education, Ismail Yusuf Osman said that the students were from different administrations such as Somaliland, Puntland, Galmudug, Hirshabelle, Southwest, Jubbaland states and Benadir region.
Mr. Osman added that this is the second time the Somali government manages a scholarship from Chinese.
” I am from Garowe town in Puntland state, I am very pleased to find this luck of higher studies in China, I am going to study engineering, I thank both the Somali and Chinese governments for allowing me this chance”, Abdulahi Mohamed Hersi(23) told Faanoole.
Chinese Ambassador to Somalia, Qin Jian said that his government provided scholarship to 50 Somali students this year, saying his government will double the number of the students given the scholarships to study Chinese universities.
” We want to welcome you with friendship hands, the Students will study in universities in China’s major towns including Beijing, Chinese people are very helpful so that the students would not worry during their stay there, this scholarship is part of our support to the Somali government and people as the two states share mutual cooperation and historic relations”, Mr. Jian said.
