Somaliland: Speaker of the House of the Representatives resigns, stands for president

Mogadishu(Faanoole)-Mogadishu:-Speaker of the House of the Representatives of the Breakaway Republic of Somaliland, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdulahi ‘Iro’ on Wednesday resigned from that position and announced that he is running  for the upcoming the presidential election, officials said.

Abdirahman Mohamed Abdulahi, the Speaker announced his resignation at  a session by the house of the representatives in Hargeisa, the capital of Somaliland today.

” I am satisfied to leave from the position of being Speaker of House of the Representatives of Somaliland Republic today, August 2, 2017, I think you will support me on that issue, I wish you will choose another member for this post”, Mr. Abulahi said.

” I am prepared to compete and hold the presidential post of Somaliland on November 31st, 2017,  I will assure the country’s independence, seek recognition, fight the corruption, I will create job opportunities for the  youth and grow the economic”, he added.

Mr. Abdulahi has been serving as a speaker for the last 12 years

Somaliland general election which faced so many delays, is expected to happen on Novemver this year.

Somaliland is the northwest Somalia and declared independence from the rest of the country in 1991.
