Mogadishu(Faanoole)-The breakaway republic of Somaliland of northwest Somalia welcomed the election of the new president of Somalia, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo and urged to continue talks between Somaliland and Somalia, officials said Saturday.
Hussein Aden Ige, Spokesperson of the Somaliland presidency said in a statement that his government welcomes Somali lawmakers’ decision to choose president for Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo.
“Somaliland welcomes the election of the president of Somalia, congratulates the heavy duty on the president elect, Farmajo, may Allah make it easy for him, we give the first priority to better neighborhood, to live both sister states communities in peace and to find lasting solution for the worrying situation in Somalia,” said the statement.
The statement said that Somaliland is committed to speed up peace talks between the two sides.
“We call to the new president of Somalia, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo to continue the talks and get into through a right way”, the statement added.
Somaliland Administration refused the representation of some members of both lower and upper houses hailing from there and indicated them to be individuals with personal interests.
President Farmajo promised opening brotherly conversation with Somaliland Administration and praised its progress in the peace and stability during the time he was delivering the speech of his presidential political agenda at the parliament before he was elected.
Mr. Abdullahi was elected president on February 8.
Somaliland’s remarks comes as peaceful rallies to show support for the new president of Somalia, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo happened across Somalia including some region in the Somaliland control areas.
